GPS Tracking Leads to Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property – But Industry Support is Vital
PACT Site Security recently identified a pattern of targeted thefts at residential construction sites in Alkimos, where 3 gas hot water systems were stolen over a two-week period. Each was cleanly removed from its mounted position, pointing to someone with trade experience, potentially a rogue plumber.
In response, our investigators deployed several GPS tracking devices into hot water units across sites in the area.
At 5:32am on Thursday, July 3rd, one of those trackers was activated. Investigators monitored its movement as it travelled through Alkimos, Two Rocks, and Yanchep, before coming to a stop at a home in Quinns Rocks.
PACT investigators liaised with Clarkson Police who immediately attended the address. Inside the offender’s bedroom, they located the stolen unit. One adult male, who is a licened plumber, was arrested and charged with stealing. The property was seized and returned to site that same day.
This is exactly how the system is designed to work:
✔️ Accurate member reporting
✔️ GPS tracking deployed with intent
✔️ Real-time movement alerts
✔️ Police collaboration
✔️ Swift arrest
✔️ Stolen property recovered
But here’s the concern, while this was a win, the broader effectiveness of the PACT program is under threat.
Too many construction sites still operate without any crime prevention strategy or coordinated reporting system. Too many offenders move freely across jobs, developments, and suburbs, simply because we don’t have enough eyes on the ground,or data in the system.
The success of the PACT program relies on industry participation.
The more members who report crime and install preventative measures like GPS tracking, the more we can detect patterns, track movements, and support WA Police with meaningful intelligence.
The more we all collaborate, the more we deter theft and hold offenders accountable.
