GPS Tracking Continues To Get Results

With the increased building activity across the industry, we are steadily seeing an increase in building and construction industry theft. The PACT Site Security Program continues to apply GPS tracking to high-risk items such as hot water units, ovens, hotplates, range hoods and air conditioners.

At 18.45 pm on August 14th, PACT Investigators were alerted to the theft of a hot water unit from a Homegroup construction site in Portes Road, Southern River.

PACT Investigators tracked the hot water unit to another address in Korong Way, Harrisdale and then to a residential address in Armadale.

On attending the Korong way address it was confirmed another hot water unit had also been stolen from the address.

Investigators attended the vicinity of the Armadale address and gained further evidence before liaising with Armadale Police who attended conducted a search of the address. The two stolen hot water systems were located in the rear of a vehicle parked at the address which resulted in an adult male being arrested and charged with two counts of stealing.

Investigators returned the recovered hot water systems back to the builder.

PACT investigators have been utilizing GPS tracking devices within the building industry with over 100 GPS tracking devices deployed to PACT Site Security members sites in 2021 alone. Over 20 persons have been charged as a result and numerous amounts of stolen property recovered.

The reporting of crime continues to be paramount to the success of the strategy as it allows PACT investigators and Police to identify high crime locations and allocate resources, including GPS tracking, to these areas.

PACT manages GPS installation/removal, monitoring, activations, recovery, police liaison and if required, court appearances on behalf of our PACT members
